Liz Smith

Liz Smith

First Appearance: Episode 447
Last Appearance: Episode 566

Key Storylines:
After Wayne splits from Amanda, he hires Liz Smith from an escort agency to pretend to be his girlfriend so that Gordon will think he's happy and won't worry about him. Unfortunately, Liz finds herself falling in love with Gordon after he turns out to be a real gentleman who treats her with respect. She eventually admits the truth to Gordon, but he tells her that he can't reciprocate her feelings, so she has to disappear from the lives of the Hamiltons.

A few weeks later, she comes into their lives again when she starts being terrorised by a former client. Gordon allows her to move into Dural again, but Barbara makes clear her dislike of the girl. Wayne persuades Liz to play up to Gordon so that he'll fall in love with her and leave Barbara, a plan Liz is slightly concerned about but agrees to go along with. However, Barbara blackmails her into moving out, and Liz decides to book into a motel. When she goes to get some things from her flat, though, she's kidnapped by the man who was terrorising her and is held in a house in the country for several days. She eventually manages to escape, and she returns to Dural, where she's surprised and delighted when Gordon tells her that he loves her. However, he also tells her that he still loves Barbara, and that they therefore have to make a clean break, as he doesn't want to lose his wife. Liz sadly has to leave again.

A few months later, Liz waltzes back into the Hamiltons' lives with a new man, Dan Weller, a businessman who Liz thinks should talk to Gordon. Sadly, her eyes are soon opened to the fact that Dan isn't the man she thinks he is: he flirts with Caroline Morrell right in front of Liz, and she has to concede that she's made the wrong choice again. When Karen Hamilton lays into Gordon in an unprovoked rant against the Hamilton family, Liz sees red and confronts Karen furiously at the end of the driveway at Dural. She ends up slapping Karen, and Karen topples over the bridge and into the water. Liz drives off, but when she learns a couple of days later that Karen is dead through drowning, she realises she must be responsible, and she turns herself over to the police.
