Key Storylines:
Fiona Thompson's niece is raised by her parents with a very strong, principled and religious background. When she meets Fiona and discovers what a comparatively-debauched lifestyle she lives, she's horrified - and she vows to change Fiona into a better person: something she spends the next 18 months attempting to do!

Not content with interfering in Fiona's life, Janice often passes moral judgement on the activities of her friends - but in essence her heart is in the right place. Andy Green takes Janice under his wing and gives her a makeover - with 'interesting' results! Janice does eventually loosen-up slightly, although the moral side of her character is always lurking just under the surface.

A teacher by profession, Janice gives up this career and takes a job working at the Bumps 'N' Grinds gym, where she is free to dispense her words of wisdom to all who dare to come in!

The one area in which Janice feels her life has let her down is love: she bemoans frequently to Fiona the fact that men aren't attracted to her. When she finds someone she loves - Englishman, Neville Curtis - she learns to her intense disappointment that he's due to marry when he returns to England. On the rebound, Janice becomes involved with botanist, Owen Brooke, and although, when he proposes, she agrees to marry him, she changes her mind when she realises she said 'yes' for the wrong reasons.

Come the end of the series, Janice is still single - but she receives a surprise visit from Neville, who tells her that his wife, Celia, was killed several months earlier. He realised that he loves Janice, and he asks her to marry him. Janice says 'yes'! In the final episode, Janice says an emotional goodbye to Fiona - both women realising what a profound effect they've had on each other - and heads off to start a new life with Neville.
