Brett Keegan

Key Storylines:
Brett is Beryl Palmer's nephew, who turns up in Melbourne to look for some work so that he can pay his way through college. To his delight, David gives him a job on his farm in Sunbury. Things quickly turn sour, though, when Brett's former girlfriend, Donna Jackson, follows him to Melbourne and announces that she's pregnant. Brett is horrified, and although he eventually agrees to marry her, it's with great reluctance. Beryl talks him out of doing something he'd regret. To Brett's surprise, Tim Palmer tells Donna that he'll marry her - and she says yes.

There are further problems for Brett when, while enjoying a night out with Leigh Palmer, they bump into Tracy Kingsford. Leigh and Tracy end up fighting, but Brett finds himself interested in Tracy. Things go wrong quickly, though, when Tracy introduces him to some of her friends - including a guy named Judge - and Brett agrees to play poker with them. He ends up losing and finds himself owing Judge several hundred dollars. Judge effectively forces him into making repayment by breaking into a warehouse and opening the doors so that he and his mates can rip the place off. Brett agrees to go along with the plan, but then discovers that it's a trap. It's Leigh who comes to his rescue. She and Brett then track Judge and Tracy down and enlist Adam Tate to arrest them. Judge and Tracy are released on bail, though, and come after Brett, holding him hostage at David's. The police eventually turn up and catch Judge and Tracy, leaving Brett relieved, but having learnt a valuable lesson. Having had enough tension in Melbourne, Brett decides to return to Ararat to spend some time recovering from his ordeal.

Matt Kennedy

Key Storylines:
Matt Kennedy is the psychiatrist hired by Gordon to help Angela after she suffers a miscarriage and loses her memory. He is then contacted again by Jill when she needs help sorting out her problems after Brian leaves her and she can't decide whether or not to keep the baby she's carrying as a result of being raped by Terry Hansen. Matt also helps Patricia after she splits from Stephen and has a breakdown. He eventually asks her to marry him, but she tells him that she can't, as she still loves Stephen too much. He moves away to London, where he meets someone else - only to be shocked when Patricia then turns up. She flees when she realises that he's rejecting her.
